Our History

Douglas Hockey Association was established in October 2018 by our former Chairman, Greg Mill and other volunteers. Saw an opportunity to introduce hockey into the Douglas Shire following strong interest from the local schools and community.

In 2019 a vibrant hockey program commenced including minis, juniors, adults and walking hockey. We also introduced our first indoor hockey competition during the wet season.

Towards the end of 2019 we took hockey to schools in the Cook region including Cooktown, Hope Vale, Laura, Lakeland, Rossville and Wujal Wujal.

Despite the challenges of running a sports association in the early half of 2020 with COVID restrictions, Douglas Hockey Association moved forward with our hockey competition for Juniors, Seniors and Walkers including the introduction of our inaugural Beach Hockey tournament.

We are currently based at Coronation Park, Mossman where we utilise grass fields. In 2020 Douglas Shire Council approved a sports master plan which included allocated space for a synthetic pitch at the Port Douglas Sports precinct.

Our hockey development plans for 2022 include taking our sport to Cape York indigenous communities. The future for hockey in our region looks bright.
